Indie Campers, rental conditions (North America)

*This is a summary to help you understand the key terms before booking. The provider's full terms and conditions in English are the binding version.*

Payment

You pay 50% when you book and the remaining 50% is charged automatically 30 days before pickup. You can also pay the full amount upfront. If you book less than 30 days before pickup, the full amount is due immediately. If the second payment fails, the booking is cancelled after three days of retries and nothing is refunded.

Cancellation

More than 30 days before pickup: full refund of what you have paid.
Between 30 and 8 days: 50% refunded.
Between 7 days and 1 day: 5% refunded.
Same day or no show: no refund.

Refunds reach your account within 5 to 10 working days. Some rates are sold as partially refundable, in which case only 5% is refunded from the moment you book. The policy that applies to you is the one shown at checkout.

Changes

Pickup date and pickup location cannot be changed within 30 days of departure. Any other change must be requested at least 72 hours ahead and depends on availability.

Online check in, mandatory

You must complete identity verification online at least 3 hours before pickup. Miss it and there is a penalty fee, and the provider can refuse the vehicle or cancel the booking with no refund. Verification is handled by an independent provider and includes international sanctions screening.

Driving licence

Every driver needs a full licence from their country of residence, valid for the whole rental. If it is not in English you also need an International Driving Permit or an official translation. Minimum age is 18. You also need a passport or ID and a physical credit or debit card in the main driver's name.

Security deposit and protection

The deposit is held on a physical credit or debit card that must belong to the main driver, who has to be present at pickup. Digital cards and cash are not accepted. If the hold cannot be authorised, the vehicle is not released and the booking is treated as a same day cancellation.

Three protection levels are available:

Premium also includes a replacement van and on trip repairs. Certain damages are never covered, whichever level you choose: see below.

What is never covered

Driving under the influence, negligence, breaking local traffic rules, lost or damaged keys, wrong fuel, personal belongings, damage below the door line or above the windscreen when no third party is involved, hitting an animal, doors caught by the wind, and any driver not listed on the rental agreement.

Pickup and drop off times

You get 30 minutes of grace. After that, late pickup costs 50 € per hour and late return the same, rounded up to full hours. If the provider is late, you are compensated at the same rate. Allow up to one hour for the return inspection. Returning early without written approval counts as abandonment.

Mileage

Every booking includes a set number of miles per night, shown at checkout, and you can add extra mileage packages. Unlimited mileage is capped at 340 miles per day.

Fuel, gas and batteries

Return the vehicle with the same fuel and AdBlue level as at pickup, or you pay for the missing fuel plus a service fee per quarter tank. One sealed gas canister is included; additional ones are cheaper if bought when booking. The vehicle has two batteries and both must come back charged at the level recorded at pickup. In freezing weather you must keep the vehicle plugged in, otherwise battery damage is charged to you.

Returning the vehicle

Empty and clean the fridge, the fresh water tank, the waste water tank and the toilet cassette, clear all compartments and bag the bedding. Each item missed carries its own fee and they add up. Smoking of any kind inside the vehicle, vaping included, is prohibited and carries a deep cleaning charge.

Pets

One pet up to 30 kg is allowed, with a cleaning fee. Any damage it causes is yours.

Where you cannot drive

Beaches, unpaved roads and off road driving are prohibited, and vehicles may never cross into Mexico. Several roads in Alaska, the Yukon, Labrador and Quebec are permanently off limits, as is Manhattan for vehicles carrying propane. The Dempster Highway is closed to rentals from 15 September to 15 May. Entering a prohibited area carries a penalty of 1,000 € per day, tracked by the vehicle's GPS.

Accidents

Report any incident to the provider and to the police straight away, complete the Declaration of Accident included in the vehicle and send it within 2 days with photos and a police reference. Never admit fault on the provider's behalf. Failing to file it can void your protection plan entirely and leave you liable for the full cost.

Vehicle category

You book a category, not a specific make or model. If nothing in your category is available, you get the same or a higher one at no extra cost, or a lower one with the difference refunded, or a full refund.
