Renting an RV in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one of the great gateways to the American Southwest. Within a few hours' drive you can reach Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Death Valley, the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce Canyon, all linked by well-kept highways. With an RV or campervan your bed, kitchen and luggage travel with you, so you can stay longer where you like it and move on when the weather changes.

With RV Las Vegas you can rent both: spacious RVs with bathroom and air conditioning for families and longer trips, and compact campervans that are easy to drive and park. Tell us your dates and pick-up location and we'll show you what is available, with the price for your whole rental.

How pick-up works

When you search, you choose where to collect and where to return your vehicle. If your route is one-way, look for a return at a different location: the results show the vehicles that allow it for your dates.

Pick-up and return times depend on the vehicle, because each one is cleaned and checked before it goes out again. You select them from the available times during booking.

Before your trip you'll receive the address and directions to the pick-up point. On the day, bring your passport or ID, your driver's license and a credit card, sign the rental agreement and you are ready to go.

Where to go: canyons, lakes and national parks

Close to Las Vegas you can visit Red Rock Canyon (about 17 miles / 27 km), Lake Mead (about 30 miles / 48 km), Hoover Dam (about 35 miles / 56 km) and Valley of Fire State Park (about 50 miles / 80 km). All are easy day trips or a good first or last stop on a longer route.

The classic road trip is the Grand Circle: Zion National Park (about 165 miles / 265 km), Bryce Canyon (about 260 miles / 420 km), Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands in Utah, then Monument Valley, Page and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Plan at least a week, and more if you want to hike.

Other options: the Grand Canyon South Rim (about 275 miles / 445 km), Death Valley National Park (about 120 miles / 195 km) and a stretch of historic Route 66 through Kingman, Seligman and Oatman. Joshua Tree (about 190 miles / 305 km) and Los Angeles (about 270 miles / 435 km) are further west.

Driving an RV in the USA

Driving in the USA is straightforward: you drive on the right, speed limits are in miles per hour and highways in rural areas often allow 70 to 80 mph. A right turn on red is allowed after a full stop unless a sign says otherwise, and at a 4-way stop vehicles go in the order they arrived. You must never pass a school bus that has stopped with its red lights flashing. Distances are long, so plan your driving days with time to stop.

Fuel is sold by the gallon. At many pumps the card reader asks for a ZIP code: with a foreign card, pay inside before you fill up. Watch the height of your RV at gas stations and drive-throughs, use a low gear on long descents so the brakes do not overheat, and expect little or no mobile coverage in the parks: download offline maps. Ask at pick-up how tolls, mileage and generator use are handled for your vehicle.

Summers are very hot in Las Vegas and especially in Death Valley, often over 105°F (40°C) during the day, and the monsoon from July to September brings storms and flash floods. In winter Las Vegas is mild, but high areas such as Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon's South Rim can be cold and snowy. Spring and fall are the best seasons. Carry plenty of water, check the weather and road reports, and watch for livestock on open-range roads.

Insurance and what's included

Every vehicle page lists what is included in the rental price, so you can compare like for like. Fuel, mileage and generator use (depending on the company), campground fees and fines are not part of the base rental.

During booking you can lower your excess with additional insurance and add extras such as bed linen or a camping table and chairs. A security deposit is held on a credit card when you pick up the vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

The essentials about booking, paying and picking up your RV or campervan in Las Vegas. Still have questions? Our team is happy to help.

  • Choose your dates and your pick-up and return locations in the search, and pick the vehicle that suits your group. Then select your pick-up and return times, add any extras and insurance, enter your details and pay online. You'll receive your booking confirmation by email; if you don't see it, check your spam folder.
  • It depends on the rental company. With most of them you pay the full rental price online when you book. A few ask for a deposit instead: you pay part online and the rest at pick-up or through a payment link before your trip.

Before you pay, the booking summary shows the total price, what you pay now and what is left to pay, and when.

At pick-up you'll also need a credit card for the security deposit, which is held on the card and not charged.

All prices are in US dollars.

  • It depends on the vehicle and the rental company: what is included is listed on each vehicle page and in your booking summary. Some rentals include basic insurance, local taxes and roadside assistance. Mileage, generator hours and kitchen or bedding kits vary by company. Typically not included: additional insurance, optional extras, fuel, campground fees, and any fines or fees incurred during the rental.

  • The minimum age and the years of driving experience depend on the rental company and the vehicle. Many companies ask for 21 or 25, and some add a young driver fee. The exact requirements are listed on each vehicle page and in its conditions.

Most RVs and campervans can be driven with a standard car license. Bring the valid license from your home country; if it is not in English (or in the Latin alphabet), bring an International Driving Permit together with the original.

  • The renter's passport or ID, the original driver's license of every driver and a credit card. The card can belong to any of the travelers, as long as the card holder is present at pick-up. A security deposit is held on the card during the rental.
  • Yes, and it depends on the vehicle, the rental company and the season. If your dates are too short for a vehicle, you'll see it when you search. Book as early as you can, especially for summer and holidays.
  • Yes, you can cancel your booking. Just keep in mind that a fee may apply depending on the vehicle and how much notice you give us. You'll always see the exact cancellation policy before you pay, and it will also be in your confirmation and our Terms and Conditions.

  • You have three main options. RV parks offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electricity and sewer) and are the easiest choice, especially in and around Las Vegas, where you cannot spend the night in your RV on the street at the Strip. State and national park campgrounds are cheaper and set in great scenery; those in national parks are booked on recreation.gov, often months ahead. Finally, dispersed camping on public BLM land is free, usually for up to 14 days, but has no services. Casino and supermarket parking lots depend on each site, so ask and check the signs. Use the dump stations to empty gray and black water, and remember that generators usually have quiet hours in campgrounds.
