Cruise America rental terms
Rental terms of Cruise America, updated on October 21, 2026.
RENTAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
These conditions apply to Cruise America and Cruise Canada rentals for summer 2026 and winter 2026/27. The Rental Contract signed at vehicle collection is the governing agreement. Rates, policies and conditions may change without notice.
VEHICLE COLLECTION
Regular vehicle collection takes place between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Customers must contact the rental centre several days before departure to arrange their collection time. Transfers are not included unless the Early Bird Departure Special has been purchased.
A compulsory vehicle orientation of approximately 25 minutes is provided before departure.
DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
All drivers must be at least 21 years old and present an original physical driving licence and passport. Digital driving licences are not accepted. Every driver must be registered and authorised on the Rental Contract.
Additional drivers are included free of charge, and there is no surcharge for drivers under 25.
SECURITY DEPOSIT AND LOCAL FEES
A refundable security deposit of USD/CAD 500 is required by credit card at collection. For specified Burning Man departures, the deposit increases to USD 1,000.
A mandatory environmental fee of USD/CAD 9.95 and preparation fee of USD/CAD 50 apply to every rental. Local taxes and location-specific surcharges may also be payable.
MILEAGE, FUEL AND EQUIPMENT
Mileage is not included in the base rental rate and must be purchased separately. Customers can choose between prepaid mileage packages of 100 or 500 miles in the USA, or 100 or 500 kilometres in Canada, or an unlimited mileage option.
Additional mileage beyond the prepaid allowance is charged at USD 0.39 per mile in the USA or CAD 0.39 per kilometre in Canada. No refund is provided for unused prepaid mileage.
Fuel and propane are paid by the customer. The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel and propane levels as at collection.
Kitchen equipment, bedding and towels are available as optional paid kits. Child seats and GPS devices are not supplied and must be provided by the customer.
DAMAGE RESPONSIBILITY AND INSURANCE
Provided the Rental Contract is followed and incidents are reported promptly, the customer’s financial responsibility for vehicle damage, theft or vandalism is limited to USD/CAD 3,000 per incident.
The optional Zero Damage Plan can reduce this liability to zero. However, it does not cover interior damage, reversing damage, overhead damage, incorrect fuelling, freezing damage or damage resulting from prohibited use.
Statutory liability insurance is included. Supplemental liability coverage is provided up to USD 500,000 for US rentals and CAD 1,000,000 for Canadian rentals, subject to the applicable policy terms and exclusions.
BREAKDOWNS AND ASSISTANCE
Cruise America provides 24-hour roadside and traveller assistance. Mechanical problems, accidents and service issues must be reported immediately.
Repairs costing more than USD/CAD 75 require prior authorisation. Receipts must be retained for reimbursement. Qualifying mechanical breakdowns lasting more than 12 hours may receive limited accommodation and transport reimbursement, up to a maximum of USD/CAD 3,000 per rental.
Malfunctions affecting the radio, air conditioning, refrigerator, generator, microwave, appliances or cruise control are not considered vehicle breakdowns and do not qualify for compensation.
TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS
Vehicles must only be driven on permitted roads. Travel on unpaved back roads, logging roads, trails or surfaces that could expose the vehicle to unreasonable damage is prohibited.
Cruise America vehicles may not enter Mexico. Additional restrictions apply to Manhattan, desert regions, Alaska, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Newfoundland and other areas identified by the rental centre.
Breaching travel restrictions may invalidate insurance coverage and make the customer fully responsible for damage, towing and recovery costs.
VEHICLE RETURN
Regular rentals must be returned by 9:00 a.m. and no later than 11:00 a.m. Customers with the Early Bird Departure Special may return the vehicle by 3:00 p.m., subject to branch opening hours.
Unauthorised late returns are charged at USD/CAD 25 per hour. The vehicle must be returned in the same condition in which it was collected, excluding normal wear and tear.
Cleaning, waste-tank emptying, missing equipment, fuel, tolls, fines and damage may be charged separately. No refund is provided for late collection or early vehicle return.
TOLLS, FINES AND TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS
Customers are responsible for all tolls, parking charges, traffic violations, fines and penalties incurred during the rental. Electronic tolls may be processed through TollSpot together with the applicable service fee.
Additional administration charges may apply when Cruise America or Cruise Canada must process unpaid tolls, fines or traffic violations.
CANCELLATION POLICY

3 days or less before departure, or on the departure day: full rental charges.
No-shows: customers who fail to arrive on the departure day or who decline the vehicle at departure are treated as a departure-day cancellation and are charged the full rental charges.
Changes: a change of name, vehicle size, departure location, departure date or drop-off date, a change of one-way drop-off location, or cancelling and rebooking, re-prices the rental at the current rate, and the higher of the current and the original rate applies. Changing the number of travellers or adding prepaid items does not change the rate.
Bookings of 4 or more vehicles are group bookings, subject to approval and their own cancellation terms from Cruise America.
These cancellation conditions apply to reservations made through RV Las Vegas as an independent booking intermediary. They may differ from those offered to customers booking directly with Cruise America or Cruise Canada.
These terms are a summary only. The Rental Contract signed at the rental centre contains the complete legally binding conditions.
